History of Odessa Port Plant

1974

USSR Chemical Industry Ministry Order No. 155 signed by Mr. L.A. Kostandov, the then Minister for Chemical Industry:

"It is hereby ordered that a by-port plant for processing and transshipment of chemicals be set up near the port being built on the shores of Grigorievsky liman. The plant shall be named Odessa Port Plant".

1978 - Electrical service department.
  • The Plant was connected to electrical mains with a voltage of 110 kV.

- Air separation shop.
  • The shop put out its first process product - liquid nitrogen.

- Ammonia and SPA transshipment terminal.
  • Putting into operation. First gas tanker - MS Bulduri of the Latvian shipping company - came alongside berth No. 3.

- Ammonia production unit No. 1.
  • Production unit start-up.

1979 - Urea transshipment terminal.
  • Putting into operation.

- Ammonia production unit No. 2.
  • Putting into operation.

- Ammonia pipeline Togliatti - Odessa.
  • First ammonia from the Gorlovka plant arrived at the OPP terminal through 807 km long pipeline stretch.

- Ammonia and SPA transshipment terminal.
  • Erection of isothermal ammonia tanks ST~3,4 and SPA tanks T-101,102.

1983 - Liquid CO2 /dry ice production unit.
  • The unit put out its first product batch.

1984 - Urea production unit No. 1.
  • Putting into operation.

1985 - Urea production unit No. 2.
  • Putting into operation.

1988 - Methanol transshipment terminal.
  • Putting into operation.

1989-1990 - Communication service department.
  • Quasi-electronic exchange Kvant for 2048 customer numbers was put into operation.

1990 - Boiler plant.
  • Implementation of microprocessor-based equipment manufactured by Honeywell.

- Urea production plant.
  • Implementation of process control system TDC-3000.

1991 - Water treatment plant.
  • Completion of the first stage of the water treatment facilities upgrading that allowed of cutting down on chemicals consumption and sewage volume.

1994 - Electrical service department.
  • Teleautomatic control system manufactured by German company ABB started to operate. It allowed the whole Plant to be monitored and its electrical supply network to be remotely controlled.

- Ammonia production plant.
  • Implementation of process control system TDC-3000.

- Urea transshipment terminal.
  • Implementation of process control system TDC-3000.

1995 - Ammonia transshipment terminal.
  • Super Phosphoric Acid transshipment terminal was made over into transshipment facilities for complex liquid fertilizers (UAN).

1997 - Communication service department.
  • Automatic exchange Hicom-392(Siemens) for 3000 customer numbers was put into operation

1998 OPP became a member of International Fertilizer Industry Association
1999 - Water treatment plant.
  • Startup of a new air separation station.

- Ammonia production.
  • Annual output of the two ammonia production units exceeded 1 million tons.

2000 - Boiler plant.
  • The first in Ukraine Plant Scape control system from Honeywell was implemented at the plant.

2000 - 2001 - Ammonia transshipment terminal.
  • Gas turbine engine DG-90 was put into operation at compressors С-1А and С-1Б with a recovery boiler in dry mode to recover flue gas heat.

- Ammonia production plant.
  • Bently Nevada 3500-series system for compressor vibration monitoring was brought into use at the plant .

2002 – 2003 - Urea production plant.
  • Revamping of the urea reactor columns.

- Ammonia transshipment terminal.
  • Ammonia storage tanks were equipped with a continuous acoustic emission monitoring system

2003 - Ammonia production plant.
  • Revamping of the condensate stripper.

2004 - 2005 - Urea production plant.
  • A number of plant component units were upgraded to improve performance indicators of the whole.

- Ammonia production plant.
  • A number of plant component units were upgraded to improve performance indicators of the whole.

2008 - Urea transshipment terminal.
  • State-of-the-art process control system Experion PKS was installed.

2009 - 2010 - Water treatment plant.
  • Redesigning of the water treatment system allowed the Plant to completely switch over to the demineralised sea water and purified waste water as the only sources of water supply for process needs.
